Florence, Italy

We spent 11 glories days in Italy, drinking too much wine and eat lots and lots of pasta! Oh and gelato everyday...I couldn't help myself. We started our journey in Florence. We only spent one night in Florence but still managed to see a lot. We stayed a Hotel Lorena per Rick Steve's recommendation. The hotel was inexpensive, great location and clean. Nothing fancy but a great value for the price. I think it was €60 for the night.

While in Florence we walked around and enjoyed a meal in the famous square, Piazza della Signoria and checked out the main sites.

Florence's main attract is the Florence Cathedral. We climbed up to the top of  Il Duomo and the bell tower for great views of the city. It was really hot and claustrophobic going up all the stairs but worth the view at the top. It was super busy when we went. You can buy the tickets at the bell tower. I would recommend buying the tickets first thing in the morning then heading to the Dome where the longest lines will start to form then head back to the tower after. You can go to the top for some great views of the city.

Ponte Vecchio meaning old bridge, it was built in 1345. It was Florence's first bridge across the Arno River and the only bridge remaining from the medieval time frame. The others were destroyed in WWII.

 So long Florence!
